Our Story

War Dogs Making It Home is committed to our veterans and their dogs. Our exceptional program unites combat veterans suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), Military Sexual Trauma (MST) and other combat wounds, with a service animal to help cope with the stressors that come with these invisible wounds. We also have ongoing Group Support for Veterans suffering from PTSD. The service animals are all rescue dogs that have been sponsored through training by amazing programs, companies and individuals that make this program run. Those amazing people could include you, if it already doesn’t. It takes a village.

The program began in 2010 and obtained 501(c)(3) charity status in 2011. Founder and Program Director, Elana Morgan brings over 30+ years of experience in the fields of obedience, protection, service work, and all phases of training. Elana carefully screens each and every dog coming into the program from high kill shelters or those who have been rescued from foster care. With Elana’s vast knowledge and experience, she is able to quickly and accurately assess which dogs will be capable of the strenuous training and lifestyle of being a Service Animal. With this, the veteran saves the dog, and the dog saves the veteran.

“The vet saves the dog, and the dog saves the vet…”

Everyday 22 veterans take their own lives due to symptoms related to PTSD. Issues with labeling, the stigma of perceived weakness and the inability to cope on their own has created barriers for those seeking or in need of assistance.
